“2 reactive dogs go for a walk” - Stowe National Trust!

Well, what can I say? Once again, we were BLOWN AWAY by Rosie & Cheery, who completely ignored each other when they got out of the car. This is exactly what we want, neutrality wherever possible. Other dogs are no big deal.

We did this walk for a few reasons. We wanted to see how Rosie & Cheery would handle it together (Rosie has been a few times before), but we also wanted to look at the space as a whole for nervous, anxious & reactive dogs. We're trying to build a list that owners with dogs like ours can use to help them choose places to visit. Simply saying somewhere is 'dog friendly' isn't enough info for dogs like ours. They both have different needs and cope with situations differently, and this is why our walks are so important. We are doing them with open eyes, looking for routes and spaces that both our dogs can enjoy.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy these beautiful spaces. Every person and every dog should be able to visit, without fear or worry or judgment. But we know this isn't always possible, which is why we're testing places so you don't have to!

So what does Stowe have & what made our walk as enjoyable as it was? Firstly, and REALLY importantly for dogs like ours, ALL dogs have to be on a lead at all times which removes the fear of off-lead dogs running into their space or worrying them. Secondly, there is SPACE, loads and loads and loads of space! Yes, there are a few points on the walk where you might find it harder to give yourselves or others space, but you can easily avoid these particular spots and still enjoy the entire ground easily!

If you need to take a break, if your dog needs a moment to sniff, if you both want a moment to breathe, you can do that here. You don't have to walk through the busier entrance section; you can walk around the outside and still reach the beautiful tree-lined avenue that leads to the spectacular gardens.

There is also no compromise on beauty here - no matter the route, it's stunning. It's quiet, it's peaceful, and did I mention the space? ;)

Things to note: there are sheep in the fields adjacent to the main avenue that leads to the gardens. You have to queue to show your pass or buy a ticket. There is wildlife throughout the gardens, squirrels, Geese, ducks, etc., and you are very likely to see other dogs because it's a popular spot.

There is a gorgeous outside area where you can enjoy a drink or snack, and there is space between each table for dogs who need it.
